Marti Garza

Marti A. Garza is one of the Labor Moderators for Portside. He brings to Portside over two decades of organizing, collective bargaining and strategic campaigning experience in the labor movement. He has spent more than a decade supporting workers in the healthcare industry, organized and unorganized, in standing up and fiercely advocating for their profession and their patients, including serving as one of the founding organizers of the rank-and-file led National Union of Healthcare Workers.  Garza’s experience organizing, bargaining on behalf of, and representing healthcare professionals runs the gamut of caregiver careers in the industry—including registered and licensed vocational nurses, other licensed healthcare professionals, nursing assistants and healthcare technicians, and service and clerical workers. In addition, Garza has also devoted time and passion to organizing and advocating in support of teachers and education sector workers, fighting for the schools and education that our students deserve. He is the proud son of migrant farmworkers who were activists in el Movimiento Chicano in Texas.
